Conference „Statistics – a Mirror of Society“ took place on 25 October 2016

On 25th October 2016, a specialized conference Statistics – a Mirror of Society was organized by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, under the auspices of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), on the occasion of the Slovak Presidency in the Council of the European Union and the European Statistics Day.

The event was focused on relationships between the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, as a producer of official statistical data, and data users from the academic and scientific community, public administration, finance and insurance, business and media.

According to Ms Mariana Kotzeva, the Deputy Director General of Eurostat, it is now necessary to conduct a permanent and open dialogue with the users of official statistics. František Bernadič, the Vice-President of the Statistical Office of the SR, in this context emphasized that the priority of the Office is communication with the users, respondents, media and other relevant stakeholders.

Among the other specialised themes the following were the most highlighted: timeliness, relevance and quality of statistical data, problem of seasonal adjustment in time series, searching for a balance between the interests of data users and reporting units as well as maintaining statistical confidence in accordance with the respective European and national legislation. The conference participants agreed on the importance of official statistics which is a basis for forecasts or appropriate decisions taking in society management and entrepreneurship.
